│ This is a VENDINFO Product Information Record │
│ │
│ This record is a means of conveying information about a software │
│ product from the author to distributors and users. It contains a │
│ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
│ by a compressed data record. The data record contains a great │
│ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools. This │
│ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for │
│ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product │
│ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO file standard is published and is freely useable. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO toolset includes a free end-user viewer, processing │
│ tools for use by distributors (BBSes, shareware disk vendors, │
│ etc.), and the editor used by author/publishers to produce these │
│ records. These tools are either free or very-low cost shareware. │

===== Information for Users ("READ-ME") ================
WORD FUGUE V3.1 <ASP>
===============
About The Program
=================
1. This is a heavy duty Word Processing Program intended for a wide
variety of word processing and editing tasks. As installed, it is
ideal for the touch typist - there is no need to take your hands
off the home row to activate any of the functions.
2. The novice should have no difficulty in using the program - the
program is easy to learn, since it comes with context sensitive
help available at the press of the F1 key. There is also a
tutorial on the program disk, for novice users to try out the
various functions.
3. The program comes supplied with industry standard Pull Down Menus
to make learning it even easier. The point and select usage means
that touch typists do not need to lift their hands from the home
row. In addition, each command on the pull down menu can
optionally display the command sequence needed to activate it, so
novices can learn the commands. The pull down menu is activated by
the F10 key.
4. The keyboard commands are fully configurable from an installation
program. Many of the options are also configurable from inside the
program. As supplied, it comes installed with a WordstarTM
compatible interface, which is the industry standard for editor
programs. Experienced users do not need to use the pull down
menus, since all functions of the menu are also available at the
press of one or two keys.
5. The word processor document files are ASCII text files, which
means that there are no funny embedded characters (unless you use
the print control sequences) and no hi order bits set on. The
files are WordstarTM compatible, which means that you can load
them into any word processor that reads Wordstar files. Apart from
printer control strings, all formatting commands are by use of dot
commands (. in column one) or embedded functions ({. }) in the
text body.
6. There are up to 8 editing windows, which can look at different
files or the same file. These files can be loaded from the
parameter line. Any window can be zoomed to occupy the entire
screen.
7. Printer support includes laser printers. It is easy to customise
the printer drivers, and different ones can be selected from a
pick list at print time. Printing also occurs in background,
letting you go on with other word processing tasks.
8. The program comes with a 100,000 word dictionary and an update
program that will add or delete words from the dictionary. In
addition to the main dictionary, you can set up auxiliary
dictionaries in each directory, containing words specific to
particular projects. Main dictionaries are available in American,
Australian and British versions.
9. The program can generate indexes and tables of contents. Both
these files can be customised during the generation by use of
options embedded in the text. In addition, paragraphs can be
numbered automatically in several formats.
10. The program comes with macro facilities, the ability to record
keystrokes, and a number of macro files for additional
flexibility. In addition, macros can be invoked at program start
up from the parameter line.
11. Printing, index and table of contents generation can include other
files, which can in turn include other files, up to 5 levels of
nesting. This means that even the biggest novel or research paper
can be easily managed.
12. Automatic reformatting of text is available. This can be turned ON
and OFF as required. In addition automatic hyphenation is
available.
13. Tables are supported, as is word wrap and justification of each
table column independently. Column mode blocks can be defined and
copied, moved or deleted.
14. Comprehensive monitor support - MONO, CGA, EGA or VGA or HERCULES.
15. DOS shell is supported to permit use of all DOS commands from
within the program. Can also free up memory to run large programs.
16. A pop up calculator with 16 functions is included. The calculation
result can be pasted into your text.
17. The program comes with support for box and line drawing, with
these characters available at the press of a key. Load the macro
files SINGLE.MAC for single lines and DOUBLE.MAC for double lines.
Additional macro files contain European and Greek characters.
18. Optional on screen display of fonts is also available. You can
edit text with this mode operating (unlike wordstar).
19. Printing can have multiple headers and footers, and these can
include functions such as current date or time.
20. Embedded print functions are supported in both headers / footers
and within the text body. Print functions can be evaluated on
screen, and include date and time, file name, revision marking and
so on.
21. Comprehensive text formatting is available and can be stored in
the text as ruler lines. There is no limit on the number of ruler
lines you can have. There is even a file of standard ruler lines
that can be automatically included into your text. You can add
other lines to this file should you so desire.
22. Mouse support.
23. Automatic save feature after number of minutes or number of
keystrokes (can be disabled)
24. Full featured mail merge facility that includes mathematic
calculations, conditional merging using IF ELSE constructs and so
on.
25. File names can have up to 65 character descriptions added to them,
in order to make recognition of files easier. These descriptions
are displayed when files are listed, and can be altered at the
press of a key. In addition, a utility (FI) is supplied to display
and change file descriptions from the dos prompt. It acts like a
replacement of the DOS DIR command.
26. Support for foot notes and end notes. Notes can span multiple
include files.
27. Snaking columns of text supported. These newspaper style columns
(not to be confused with tables) have text wrapping to the next
column when the bottom of the current one is reached.
28. Hundreds of other sophisticated features like insertion of current
date or time (in different formats), the ability to mark changed
text in the left hand margin, offset page number on odd or even
pages, print page numbers as roman Numerals and so on.
29. The installed command make it perfect for Lap tops, while the
cursor can be changed to a hard block of colour where it is
ordinarily hard to see.
Running the Program
===================
The manual describes how to install and run the program. Briefly - the
overlay file (WF.OVR) must be in the default directory unless you have
installed the home directory:
1. Make the Word Fugue directory the default directory
2. Run Word Fugue by typing in WF
3. Install the home directory by F10 O G H to display the
default directory. Press ENTER to record it, followed by ESC to
return to the options menu, S to save the defaults, and then
press ESC 3 times to exit the pulldown menus and return to text
entry mode
These instructions may seem long winded, but they are operating a
pulldown menu, and will be intuitively obvious when you try it.
The Manual on Disk
=====================
The manual is set up for printing using Word Fugue, and is a very good
demo of how to go about using many of the print commands. It also
shows you how to set up a large document in several files, with a
master document to pull them all together. It is an abridged version
of the full manual, which currently runs to over 260 pages or 900k.
To read the manual, simply load the files WF.001 to WF.018 into Word
Fugue and browse them. They will also show you how to set up a large
document consisting of several chapters, how to use ruler lines and
formatting and so on. If you need to print the manual, make sure you
have plenty of paper in your printer (at least 180 pages), load WF.DOC
into Word Fugue, press Ctrl K P to activate the print menu, select
an appropriate PDF file (Which printer will show you a list to choose
from), and press P to commence printing.

restrictions above and below, repair or replace any defective
item(s), or refund the purchase price of any diskette and/or
manual and/or any other parts or components of Word Fugue found
to be defective, if such defect is the fault of Fugue Software
and not the result of misuse or abuse. Such a refund, repair,
or replacement shall be your sole remedy for any defects,
program error(s), or documentation error(s). In no event shall
Fugue Software be responsible for any other costs or damages

===== License for Use and Distribution =================
Word Fugue License Agreement
(1) Copyright: The Word Fugue program and all other programs
and documentation distributed or shipped with it are Copyright
to Fugue Software, 1988, 1994, and are protected by Australian
and international copyright law. In the rest of this document,
this collection of programs is referred to simply as "Word
Fugue". You are granted a license to use your copy of Word
Fugue only under the terms and conditions specified in this
license agreement.
(2) Use of One Copy on Two Computers: If you have a copy of
Word Fugue which is licensed for use on a single computer, you
may install it on two computers used at two different locations
(for example, at work and at home), provided there is no
possibility that the two computers will be in use at the same
time, and provided that you yourself have purchased Word Fugue,
or if Word Fugue was purchased by your employer, that you have
your employer's explicit permission to install Word Fugue on
two systems as described in this paragraph. The right to
install one copy of Word Fugue on two computers is limited to
copies originally licensed for use on a single computer, and
may not be used to expand the number of systems covered under a
multi-system license.
(3) Use of Word Fugue on Networks or Multiple Systems: You may
install your registered copy of Word Fugue on a computer
attached to a network, or remove it from one computer and
install it on a different one, provided there is no possibility
that your copy will be used by more users than it is licensed
for. A "user" is defined as one keyboard which is connected to
a computer on which Word Fugue is installed, regardless of
whether or not the user of the keyboard is aware of the
installation or use of Word Fugue in the system.
(4) Making Copies: You may copy any version of Word Fugue for
normal backup purposes, and you may give copies of the
shareware version to other individuals, which they may also use
and copy subject to the terms of this agreement. If you copy
the shareware version of Word Fugue for others, you must
include all of the files distributed with it, including this
one. You may not give copies of the registered version to any
other person for any purpose, and you may not make any copies
of the printed and bound Word Fugue manual without explicit
written permission from Fugue Software.
(5) Distribution Restrictions: ASP Vendors may distribute Word
Fugue as part of their shareware offerings provided they abide
by the ASP regulations and guidelines. Non ASP vendors may
distribute Word Fugue shareware version provided they
distribute the entire Word Fugue package. They may add files to
it, but under no circumstances may they remove files. They must
also inform buyers of their obligation to register the program
if they continue to use it after a reasonable evaluation
period. NON ASP vendors must also not charge more than a
reasonable copying fee for the disks (around $US3 per 360k
disk, and no more than $US8 for 1.4M disks). Individual copies
of the shareware version may be passed to friends and
associates for their individual use provided the entire package
is passed on, and the recipient is made aware of their
obligation to register. This same applies to hardware vendors
who bundle shareware with their systems. Specifically, Word
Fugue is NOT free or Public Domain, and you may not represent
it as such. You may not sell the registered version without
express written permission from Fugue Software.
(6) Use of Word Fugue: Word Fugue is a powerful program. While
we have attempted to build in reasonable safeguards, if you do
not use Word Fugue properly you may destroy files or cause
other damage to your computer software and data. You assume
full responsibility for the selection and use of Word Fugue to
achieve your intended results. As stated below, Fugue Software
limits its warranty to replacement of a defective program
diskette or manual.
